For the past few years, MSAD 54 and 59 shared many of the costs of the adult education program. This spring, the MSAD 59 school board voted not to fund the adult education program. Consequently, a source of adult education funding has been eliminated. In addition, state subsidy and federal grants for adult education have been reduced. In response, fees for some classes have been adjusted and the non-resident fee has been reinstated. Below is a summary of changes you can expect for the 2009-2010 school year.
DISCOUNTED TUITION for MSAD 54 RESIDENTS
a. Out-of-district registrations will no longer receive classes at the same discounted rate as MSAD 54 residents. Out-of-district registrations will be charged a $20 out-of-district fee for each course.
b. Residents of MSAD 54 will continue to benefit from discounted tuition fees. (Although prices have increased for some courses, they represent a portion of the actual cost of the course.)
c. Seniors, age 60 and over, will continue to benefit from a 50% tuition discount. Where applicable, out-of-district fees will be applied before the discount is taken. Ask for the discount at the time of registration.
Lifelong learning adds to the quality of life in any community. We appreciate you taking classes at MSAD 54 and hope to see you soon.
